Staff Accountant

Job Type: Hybrid, 3-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $32/hr

Job Summary:

Major hospital in Boston is looking to hire a staff accountant. Under the direction of the Accounting Management Team, the staff accountant plays a key role in the monthly financial close process. Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, managing intercompany transactions, and analyzing financial trends. Additional duties include assisting with abandoned property filings, treasury functions such as intercompany invoicing and wire transfers, and supporting audit requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare standard and intercompany journal entries for various departments.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, accounts payable, prepaids, and other assets/liabilities.
  • Reconcile and analyze monthly patient and non-patient cash postings.
  • Ensure payroll reconciliations align with external invoice files.
  • Analyze revenue and expense trends, recording necessary adjustments and providing variance explanations.
  • Compile and distribute financial statements and supporting analysis.
  • Coordinate with departments for non-patient accounts receivable billing and payment application.
  • Generate intercompany invoices and track related transactions.
  • Manage bank statement downloads and wire transfers using financial systems.
  • Conduct quarterly payroll audits to ensure accurate employee payments.
  • Assist with annual abandoned property filings.
  • Support accounting management in annual audit requests.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
    • Experience with general ledger systems (Lawson/Infor preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel & Word).
    • Effective communication and organizational skills.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
